This summer feels like winter.
Cyclone Gabrielle came through New Zealand this week leaving many people without power, internet, and water. Reported as the biggest cyclone in NZ since the 80s, with earthquakes felt in many parts of NZ.
I was nervous as the wind and rain swept our house through the night.
After days of rain and wind, the sun.
Grateful to see our Sun :)
In the morning on my drive to work, I was grateful to see our beautiful sun.
The sun was shining brightly as if to say “Hello! I’m still here”.
The wind stopped and it was like it never happened.
I was grateful to have water and electricity.
I was grateful I could go to work and feel safe inside the building.
The cyclone made me realise we don’t need much to live.
But we need to be prepared.
Preparing for future natural disasters with enough:
Water
Food – tinned cans, dry foods, etc.
Battery power – battery-powered headlights, power banks for phones & laptops.
Gas cookers – to heat food and boil water
I'm happy you're ok. Thank you for sharing about this experience and realization. Yes, we really don't know what will happen but 'just live today' we can be grateful
