Auckland Transport partners with community organisations to promote biking through 12 Bike Hub locations in the Auckland Region. Here you can buy second-hand bikes and get your bike serviced for free! (or by koha/donation if they don't use any new parts).
The service is friendly and helpful.
I wanted to bike to work rather than driving. Along with providing for the environment during this oil crisis, saving money, and being outside (and not being stuck in traffic), I decided to buy a bike.
I visited Bike Hub Manukau, where there were about 15 second-hand bikes for sale.
The staff gave me time and advised on a bike right for my purpose, and at a very affordable price! I was really surprised by the care, support, and helpfulness of the staff.
Since then, I have been enjoying biking to work once a week. It feels so good to be outside in the fresh air. It provides exercise and doesn't take that much longer than driving, given my location.
Today I visited the Bike Hub Pakuranga to get my bike oiled, tyres pumped and chassis tuned. The service and friendliness was impressive.

When Is It Open?
It varies depending on the location, but most are open Thursday to Saturday / Sunday 10 am to 2 pm, with some open 12 pm to 4 pm or 6pm.
Cost?
General servicing is free or by donation if they don't use any new parts.
The bikes for sale are very reasonably priced! My good condition road bike was $200.
