“Remembering you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart” - Steve Jobs
I was singing and playing guitar in a local park the other day.
I am shy singing in front of people.
So, to avoid people looking at me, I decided to close my eyes.
I imagined this was the last day of my life and thought “who cares what others think of me”.
I started singing my original song and poured out my heart.
I opened my eyes and realized no one was looking at me, just some kids playing. When I sensed someone looking towards me, I closed my eyes again and kept playing.
I opened my eyes with a warm heart. It felt like a stone had shifted off my heart.
Amazingly, someone came up to me and asked:
“Can I take a video of you playing?”
I played for her and her partner said I was amazing.
She even wanted to put it on her YouTube channel. I was ecstatic.
The universe gave me a present.
I love the Steve Jobs quote above. Knowing I’m going to die anyway provides so much motivation to overcome my own fear.
