1000 Year Old Trees & One Tea Bag - The Joys of A Forest Hike

We didn't have much - but we had such a good time.

Last weekend I went on a hike with my brothers.

We stayed overnight in a back country hut in the Urewera's - an ancient rain forest in the North Island of New Zealand - 4.5 hours from Auckland.

Pure water from the mountains, waterfalls and native birds surrounded us.

We filled our water bottles from the pure river.

Tramping made me feel good - moving my body through the lush green vegetation and clean air.

The ancient forest has trees up to 1000 years old

We arrived at the hut after 3 hours - it was an achievement.

Sharing a hot chocolate we made with our gas cooker was a celebration.

Our hut for the night

With no electricity, we ate and talked in the candle light.

What I realized is that even though I didn't have many possessions on me (just my pack, shelter and company) - it was a lot of fun.

And that I can be happy with not much on me.

All we had is our hiking packs and the limited food we could carry.

Every tea bag is precious.

Tramping through the pristine forest - I felt so grateful to see the pure waters and lush green trees.

Spending time with my brothers and friend was fun.

In 2014, Te Urewera, was given back to the local Maori tribe.

The forest has been given the same legal rights as a person.

Wow, that's great and I'm fascinated the forest has been given the same legal rights as a person! I wonder what would happen if we did that over here in Australia 🤣🤔 Cynical political minds arising
