Buy a Guitar

My recommendation is to buy an acoustic guitar.

Acoustic guitars cost around $100+

Second-hand guitars are sold on websites like: Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, Trademe (in New Zealand), and Amazon.

You can often find some really good deals second-hand, and the quality of the guitar can also be very good. You can find really good guitars for half the retail price.

Electric guitars are an option, however, they are more expensive and you would need to buy an amp (speaker) as well.

Acoustic guitar is easy because you can just pick it up and play! 😊

Let’s Start

Today we are going to learn 4 chords.

You can play a whole song with just 3 or 4 chords. This is played using your hand pressing down on 3 or 4 strings and strumming at the same time. The black dots in the picture below is where you put your fingers.

Many songs use the following chords: A minor, C, D, G

For example, ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’ by Bob Dylan:

G D A minor A minor

G D C C

Another song is ‘Time of Your Life’ by Green Day using the same chords but in a different sequence.

G G C D

Once you learn the above chords you can play many songs.

Then you can create your own songs changing the order and rhythm:
