This week I became a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
Becoming a full member is similar to becoming a Chartered Accountant or Registered Builder.
In order to become a full member I needed to pass an interview.
This was my second go at the interview (I previously wrote a blog article about how I failed the first time, which can be read here).
I had been preparing 6 months for this.
Passing was a sigh of relief followed by a long-lasting feeling of happiness inside.
I was questioned for 50 minutes on topics relating to my profession: Town Planning.
I was questioned ethically and needed to demonstrate my understanding of the role of the town planner.
It involved study into Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Treaty principles and Maori involvement in decision making.
In celebration of my passing, my company celebrated with cakes.
The owner and director of my company gave appreciative speeches which I was grateful for.
The owner of my company said that I had changed over the last 2 years and he was very impressed.
I was happy to hear that :)
I am grateful to my company for supporting me and celebrating my achievement.
This was a big deal for me and something I had been trying to attain for 3 years.
I have a big feeling of accomplishment.
Maybe it is because it was so hard for me to pass, and I really had to try hard.
Thank you 🙏
